The World of RH is a lounge space featured immediately off of the scenic lift designed by world reknowned sir Norman Foster of the practice Foster + Partners. The Hologram takes elements of the lift and motifs of Lady Wineberg (HHH) and turns it into an experiential center piece. Challenge: We had five weeks to design, fabricate, and install a bespoke case at that scale, on an active construction site with over 300 workers on it daily. The case held a one-of-a-kind hologram illusion, built around a glass pyramid with just one centimeter of clearance on each side, which had to be glued together on-site amid ongoing construction. Its size and the building's layout meant the assembled pieces barely cleared the doorways they needed to pass through, and the case itself had to be craned onto the terrace in three sections just four days before the opening event, then moved through the building by hand. Approach: I led the design and development of the case while coordinating installation across the room at large. That meant working with custom glass manufacturers on the cladding, and modeling the case and its internal hardware structures in 3D so everything would fit together correctly once assembled on-site. In parallel, I led the development of the hologram content itself, a first-of-its-kind execution that required aligning our internal teams' models with external digital creators building the visual content. The final steps, labeling, finishing, and calibration, all happened on-site, under the same compressed timeline. Outcome: The World of RH opened to a packed room. Guests coming off the scenic lift are met by the hologram immediately, an intentional echo of Foster's lift design carried into the case itself. The space became one of three connected environments (alongside The Perch and the terrace restaurant) in RH London's suite of Anouska Hempel-designed spaces, and World of RH became the lead image for Wallpaper magazine's coverage of the project.
