America's First Women's Vibe Coding Hackathon, an award ceremony and networking reception hosted in San Francisco's Transamerica Pyramid. 25 women builders from Stanford, Berkeley, and executives from Google, Meta, and Uber prototyped AI for social good, culminating in presentations to 150+ attendees including VCs and tech leaders. Challenge: Designing for the Transamerica Pyramid on an abbreviated timeline while creating a space that could function for hackers for 8 hours, then transform into a cocktail reception venue. The large space needed to accommodate radically different programming needs throughout the day, from focused coding sessions to formal presentations to networking. Approach: Once I visited the site, the flow became clear. I focused on understanding independent user journeys and the interstitial moments before participants sat down to hack. Working closely with the Ruth team, I designed specific collateral to make each touchpoint intentional while creating cohesion through Ruth's brand throughout. I developed a flexible spatial system using modular furniture: high-tops for collaboration, lounge areas for discussion, focused desk zones for coding, then seamlessly transitioning to presentation theater and cocktail circulation. Creating distinct circulation flows for back-of-house staff, participants, and attendees kept each group independent and prevented operational conflicts during the transformation. Outcome: The hackers used the space organically: lounge seating broke up desk formality, teams gathered around high-tops to share ideas and practice presentations. When critics and guests arrived for evening presentations, they naturally found their way to seats and reception areas. Soft florals and partner collateral, combined with thoughtful Ruth branding, allowed the brand to interface tastefully with this iconic space while maintaining the flexibility needed for dual programming. What I Created: -Wayfinding and environmental graphics for multi-phase event -Event collateral suite (signage, presentations, partner materials) -Spatial planning with flexible furniture zoning -Brand integration balancing Ruth identity with iconic venue -Circulation flows for three user groups (hackers, staff, guests) -Presentation environment for finalist pitches
